THE NIGHT In the reign of night Time wears thick gloomy cloak In a bid to mourn the death of day And bid the glowing sun farewell Sometimes we join the grievous elegy Singing solemnly in melodious laments Nursing the grudges of blind darkness Which glue its veil on our radiant faces In the reign of night When sleep softly sings it lullaby Each grip of cold is beat Every stroke of warmth is pleasure Sometimes in the reign of night As the snake creep into the hut So the burglar may gently stride in To raid, rape, and wreck the house The night is but a coward Whom the gentle moon can strip unclad For the little ones to cluster like stars And enjoy series of elder’s tales Even lovers employ the night reign Dashing their shames against its scary face As they wallow in the pool of pleasure While the night watches like a slave Night!
